1-1 Sound Therapy

Therapeutic sound is sound that is played with a positive intention. Sound can help activate the body's natural healing mechanisms through phenomena known as Sympathetic Resonance and Entrainment. Working with sound in this way can change the vibratory rate of our thoughts, feelings, physical body, and actions.

What is a drum circle?

In the words of Arthur Hull, founder of Village Music Circles, who Rowan has trained with:

“The Community Drum Circle, in the context of how we are using it within our non-professional hand drumming culture, is the most basic and simple use of the drum and rhythm. It is the use of a rhythm based event as a tool for unity. A community drum circle is a fun, joyful event, where people come together in order share their spirit by entraining rhythmically as a percussion ensemble. They empower each other in the act of celebrating community and life through rhythm and music. People of all levels of musical expertise come together and share their rhythmical spirit. Everyone who comes and participates has something to offer the circle, and any one is welcome.”

Who is it for?

Anybody can join in a drum circle – you don’t need to have any prior experience. People of all ages and abilities can come together and join in. We have facilitated drum circles at festivals, in family settings, in health care settings, in workplaces, in schools and more.

What are the benefits?

The inclusive nature of drum circles ensures that everyone, regardless of skill level, can contribute meaningfully. This can help participants feel competent and confident as they can quickly see and hear the results of their efforts.

A drum circle leaves you with a feeling of connection with others, making it perfect for teambuilding or community events.

The physical act of drumming helps to release stress, anxiety and tension in the body.

Drumming grounds people in the present moment, and many people claim to feel calm or peaceful afterwards.

What is a sound bath?

A sound bath is a practice of therapeutic sound. It is an intentional and relaxing sound experience that eases discomfort, balances your energy field and brain hemispheres and relaxes your body, helping you to release stress and tension.

Therapeutic sound is sound that is played and received with the intention of wellbeing.

A sound bath is also a practice of rest and stillness. Simply lie down, get comfortable and let the beautiful sounds of instruments such as singing bowls, gongs, percussion, chimes, and flutes wash over you, guiding your body, mind and spirit into rest and relaxation.

What to expect at a Sound Unearthed sound bath?

Arrive 10-5 minutes before the session starts, allowing yourself to come into the space and get your yoga mat, blanket, and cushions ready for your ultimate comfort.

We start with simple mindfulness tools, such as awareness of the breath, guiding your attention into the body. Once we are settled, you will be invited to set your intention for the session. We then move smoothly into the soundscape, where you will be held with therapeutic vibrations from a range of beautiful instruments.

No need to worry if you drift off as you will be guided out the other end, gently and slowly coming back to the breath and body, with time to check in with how you feel, before you take yourself home to have the best night’s sleep ever.

What are the benefits?

When working with sound intentionally, it has been shown to relieve high blood pressure, high heart rate, stress, depression, anxiety, hearing difficulties, insomnia, brain fog, fatigue and physical pain.
